Potty Talk

Sparky: Well it is official. We are in the beginning stages of potty training. My parents started by letting Robert watch them go potty. This did kinda backfire though. When in the bath Robert has been putting his hands on his hips, thrusting them forward & proceeds to urinate on the bath tub wall.

The next phase was mommy flushing the poop from the dirty diapers down the toilet & explaining that poop goes in the toilet. This too created an interesting response. Robert spent several days tugging on the bathroom door knob saying "poop flush" even when he had a clean diaper.

Mommy was discussing these potty training steps with Ms. Delania. She informed mommy that she started Zach's potty training by putting him on the toilet when he would start to poop in his diaper. Ms. Delania told mommy that the toilet seats at the old house were so small they didn't need the kiddie insert. Mommy thought this would be a great way to start the next step for Bobby. Our mommy didn't think it through & went to put Robert on the toilet when he was beginning to poop. Needless to say our toilet here is much bigger than the old house so Robert got a very wet tushy. It was quite funny if you weren't Robert. He was very mad at mommy.

Mommy & daddy discussed the official potty to purchase & they decided on the insert for the big toilet. They had both seen them at Target with Cars on them. They decided this would be the one to get. Mommy took Bobby to Target last Thursday to get the seat. Well they didn't have any seats with Cars on it when they went. Mommy thought it over while she continued to shop. She realized this might be a good thing because if Robert gets freaked out by the potty it would be very bad if he began to hate Cars as a result. She let Robert pick out the seat & he chose the Diego seat.

Now the fun has truly begun. The very first time mommy put Bobby on the seat she forgot to secure his man parts in the cup. This resulted in mommy almost getting peed on. Of course mommy squealed & jumped back. Robert thought that was funny & proceeded to laugh which caused a spurting effect while he continued to pee. Mommy decided it would be easier to let him finish them clean the bathroom. As of today we have had several successful experiences peeing in the potty. The last 2 times Robert even asked to sit on the potty to pee.

We know we are still a very loooong way from a diaper free lifestyle but Bobby has started the journey. We are all so proud of his efforts & current success :-)
