The 5 Day Forecast Seems a Little Apocalyptic

Bobby: Mommy keeps saying if we all survive this Korea thing with Daddy being gone it will be a miracle. I'm pretty sure she mean that literally but you know the saying "watch what you wish for because you just might get it"? Well someone really needs to remind my mommy because things have been very crazy here on the east coast.

We were at Petco with Uncle Bill & all of a sudden mommy got this look of terror on her face. A split second later everything in the store started shaking. There was total silence except for the rattling of collars which was pretty weird too. When the shaking stopped I asked for it again. What? Don't judge me. It was fun being in my shopping cart & shaking around some. I watched as the following conversation occurred:
Mommy: was that an earthquake?
Uncle Bill: Well yeah but it wasn't anything compared to what I've experienced in Cali.
Mommy: Oh thank god. At first I thought it was my MS but then I realized I'm not fat enough that my wobbly legs would rattle the store shelves.
Uncle Bill: I'm just going to ignore that.
Over the loud speaker: Is everyone OK? Do we need to call an ambulance?

And just like that life rolled along. Sound returned & people kept on shopping while muttering things like "OMG was that an earthquake?". Once we left mommy tried to call daddy to let him know we were ok but the call wouldn't go through. Then she tried Nana. Same result. As mommy started to panic she called Uncle Bill's phone. I will say Uncle Bill thought mommy was crazy as she explained that the other 2 people were on the same cell network. When that didn't go through mommy called Great Grandmother & still could not get through. She was really panicked until Uncle Bill pointed out the world probably didn't end but cell phones were most likely off line because of the quake. Needless to say over the next week we had a few aftershocks... well I guess you can call them aftershocks since they occurred after the first one but they were several days apart.

Next came the crazy storms with high winds & hail. We were actually stuck at a friend's house for an hour waiting for the rain to slow down enough to get to our car without floating away. Once we got in the car the radio announced tornadoes & hail were to come in the next hour. Yeeeaahh we rushed out little butts straight home & prepped for a power outage.

When the storm started the thunder was so loud it shook our house. Next came the sound of a big bag of marbles being dumped on our house. Mommy & I rushed outside to see the hail. Now ,I'm not saying it was the brightest thing to do but it sure was cool. Mommy even let me take a picture of the melting hail by my foot.

After that craziness the east coast decided to ramp up the insanity with a hurricane. I truly don't know what was scarier the actual hurricane or the maniacs at the stores "preparing" for the hurricane. No offense people but buying 8 gallons of milk & 25 packs of toilet paper is not a logical way to prep for a hurricane. There were stories of people getting into fist fights over flashlights & batteries, stores posting on web pages that they were out of stock of things like batteries & water, but I think the most ridiculous thing was a car jacking of a car loaded with hurricane supplies. All I can do is shake my little head & just say WOW!

My mommy went to a store off post 3 days out from the projected impact & acquired things like water, dog food, Gatorade, popcorn & beef jerky. Definitely not a sensible diet under normal circumstances but it would definitely do when we were in the thick of things with no power. After several consultations with daddy we packed a box of hurricane supplies & battened down the hatches.

On the actual storm day the rains started very early. Mommy & I ran out hours before the real craziness was to begin to check on our friend who just happens to be in a wheelchair, living on the first floor of an apartment that has the windows at ground level & little to no family in the area. Yes a call would have sufficed but she is Orthodox Jewish & hurricane Irene decided to be a total butt head (shhhhhh don't tell my parents I used a naughty word) & make her appearance during Shabbos. Hence the visit instead of a phone call.

Once that was taken care of we came home & just waited. A couple of hours before the major part of the storm hit we lost power. Of course this happened right as mommy was getting ready to make dinner. After a quick dash through the fridge (mommy already had everything we would pull out to eat ready on a shelf) we put a few things on ice & ate dinner. We also played a few board games & read stories. Right when the radio announced that all repair crews were being pulled in because of the severity of the current storm conditions we settled in for an early bed time. Not even 5 minutes later our power came back on. Mommy & I cheered & the dogs howled... well Tiger did. Trixie let out a yelp because she was startled by the lights coming on right when she had chosen to do her business on the laundry room floor. Mommy rushed to charge our electronics we had been using like her cellphone & my portable DVD player.

After a few hours of celebrating & listening to the storm I went to sleep. Well I guess the proper way of putting that is mommy gave me some medicine to help with my constant fearful questioning about the giant angry spider in the garage & if it was going to eat me. No matter how many times she tried to convince me that it was the bad winds from the storm I just wouldn't believe her. Maybe if she would have opened the door or something I might have taken her seriously, but she refused & locked it with the chain I can't reach so I wouldn't try. I'm pretty sure mommy was a wee bit frazzled by the time I passed out. I slept really well that night. Mommy said the power went back out 20 minutes after I went to sleep. I'm very glad I was asleep because I just knew that spider was waiting for it to get dark again to come get me.

As you have probably guessed the spider did not eat me while I slept since I am here to tell the story. We got our power back around 6AM & all was well here. There was tons of damage to the surrounding areas & some people were without power for a week. Uncle Bill was 1 of those people so he crashed here for a few days. Nana was without power for 8 days but luckily they stayed with family & were ok as well.
