Trixie: So it seems that we don't really have a 5 yr old in our house. Sir Robert wasn't even 5 for a week before mommy had to go to Kindergarten registration. Of course the day before that was the 5 yr old well check up. Our boy passed with flying colors. He was 41.5 lbs and just under 42 inches tall (41.9 to be exact). No shots were needed to start school. He also got his first eye exam. Mommy said it was quite interesting. They had a special setup for kids Bobby's age. Instead of the usual blocky capital letters it was all symbols. Bobby wound up scoring 20/30 vision. Mommy's not sure if that's true only because when the rows got really small my brother refused to guess. It was kinda funny according to Mommy because the airman giving the test kept asking Bobby what was this symbol? My brother would say I'm not sure. Mr. Airman asked Bobby to guess. His response "I'm not guessing if I don't know the right answer." What more can you really do other than bite your tongue and shake your head. :-)
On to the other thing. On the morning of the first Mommy and Bobby got up really early. Mommy was a mess running around trying to find the papers she had put in a special folder to take to the dreaded Kindergarten registration. Keep in mind it is a good thing Bobby is going to school and is super excited to be a "Kindergardeninger". Mommy just keeps going around ranting about how her baby is all grown up and going to school. Anyhoo once the papers were found and they rushed out the door mommy got lost... Yes we have a GPS and yes mommy was using it but apparently if you mistype the address it doesn't take you to the correct location. Who knew? Once a very frazzled Mommy and an overly excited Bobby arrived at the Cherry Creek school districts east registration office they were greater by a giant sign that said "welcome class of 2026". Mommy went white, threw up a little in her mouth and almost walked right out. In her defense since she has been having so many issues with the very thought if registering Bobby for school seeing his graduating year was little much for mommy to swallow. She did however put her big girl panties on and proceed.
So we have an official "Kindergardeninger" in our house. He will be attending school year round for half day kindergarten. My parents find out more on the 1st of March when all 3 of them attend the school's orientation. Until then Mommy keeps tissues and a brown bag with her at all times while she still tries to wrap her head around The fact that her precious little baby is officially getting ready for school.
