A Few Showers & Storms

Robert: As we have mentioned my cousin Rayne is in MD for the summer. As always we have taken her into our house for part of her stay. Right now she is spending Monday nights - Friday afternoons with my family. My mommy has become obsessed with helping Rayne create healthy habits. My 7 yr old cousin has a little bit of a weight issue (she is 94 lbs). Since we have watched her get heavier each year mommy wants to try to help Rayne get healthy & lose some of the weight so she doesn't develop a lifetime issue with obesity. So far mommy has added to the chore list playing catch several times a day with Tiger & Sparky, a minimum of 30 minutes on the wii fit, & walks to the playgrounds. With all of that said we have had lots of rain so it hasn't been as easy as planned. She is doing the wii fit & playing with the dogs some each day, but mommy has been trying to come up with more indoor activities that will help Rayne get in shape. So far we have done lots of cleaning & dancing. Mommy would love to hear any ideas anyone might have. Mommy plans to get Rayne a jump rope this week & let her do that in the empty garage if we have another soggy week.

I am greatly enjoying having another kid around to play with. My cousin is super cool & makes we laugh a lot. She also sleeps in my room so that means I have a roommate most of the week. Mommy says I act like a little girl at her 1st slumber party. I sit quietly in my crib when I go down for bedtime & wait for the 45 minutes to pass until Rayne comes to bed. Then I sit there & chatter for about an hour until I fall asleep. I know mommy thinks it is cute even though she doesn't encourage it. What can I say... I am a cute kid & a mama's boy so I get away with a lot :-)

Kudos to you for trying to make a healthy impact on Rayne. Gardening can be a good activity with a neat payoff - eating your own homegrown veggies! Or perhaps head to a pick your own strawberry patch. Jumprope is good, walking the dog (with you of course), swimming.

When I get overweight foster kids we do a lot of dog walking (I blame the dog's need for activity rather than pointing out the obvious!).
