Tiger: Anyone that knows our mommy knows how much she loves to do volunteer stuff. She managed to rope daddy in to help her on her newest venture. They helped make 150 "Easter baskets" for troops deployed in a war zone. The brain child of this project is Ms. Kiley. She is an Air Force wife & is stationed here at Fort Meade. A Smile for the troops focuses on the single men & women who serve our military. Many of the soldiers on the front lines are on the lower part of the totem pole, are relatively new to military life, & don't have a lot of friends & /or family to send them goodies. The idea of this project is to let these people know that we appreciate every sacrifice they are making & we want to brighten their day. My parents had a blast doing all of the art projects. They did the decorations the big bags that each troop gets plus handmade all 150 thank you cards. It made them both feel that warm fuzzy inside to be doing something nice for people that need a reminder of how special & important they are! Ms. Kiley told mommy that the next batch goes out for the 4th of July. We will keep our eyes peeled for patriotic stuff to decorate the next round :-)
Please keep in mind it really doesn't take a lot to help out a cause close to your own heart. Many of the things out there really don't require "work" at all. For example if animals are your thing then something as simple as dropping off a box of biscuits or taking a few minutes to play with one of the furry residents at a local shelter will mean the world to a fur baby. We strongly encourage you to look into something that speaks to you & get your volunteer groove on. It will bring new meaning to a life!
