Turkey Time

Trixie: Thursday was the ever famous turkey day also known as Happy "break out the stretchy pants" day. This was my very first Thanksgiving. I was kinda confused about all the hype until mommy broke out the biggest chicken I'd ever seen. It was like totally bigger than I am. I couldn't help but drool even though it was 6am & I was still really sleepy. Tiger got a big laugh about the fact that I thought a turkey was a giant chicken. Whatever, it's not like I saw it before it lost it's head & feathers *rolls eyes*

Anyway the plan was to host daddy's troops. We thought it would be several people but in the end everyone had other plans. It was all good though. Uncle Bill came over to spend the day with us & we left the invitation open to everyone. Mommy & daddy made tons of food: turkey, mashed potatoes, stove top, green bean casserole, honey carrots, homemade cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls, little smokies, salmon dip, spiced apples, apple cranberry bake, pumpkin pie, & raspberry swirl pie. As you can see we had a plethora of food. I was quite bummed when Tiger & I had to go into our kennels for the big meal. Little did I know my parents believe in Thanksgiving for everyone. Tiger & I each got to feast on some turkey & a roll. It was amazing & based on the leftovers in the fridge it will be amazing for the next week!

After the big meal our plan was to lounge around & just relax for the rest of the day. Well in true Bermudez Clan fashion we had a major change in the plan. Around 8:30 pm daddy asked what the weird smell was in the house. Upon further inspection my parents discovered the pilot light was out on the gas stove. They called our emergency maintenance service after daddy attempted to relight the stove while mommy yelled that he was going to blow himself up & reported the issue. The actual tech that called back was a total jerk. I would've bit him if I could've. his final instructions were that we call the fire department & he would be here in an hour or 2. Mommy took Bobby next door to Ms. Kim's, daddy opened all of the windows in the house then called the fire department & waited outside with Tiger & I.

Not even 10 minutes later we had a big fire truck on out little street, all of the neighbors lining the sidewalk trying to see what was going on plus Bobby, Aiden, & Gracie all outside staring in total awe & amazement. The firemen found we did have a gas leak & shut off our gas leading to the stove. They gave us permission to go back inside since daddy had aired out the house & the only gas readings were coming from the oven. Over an hour after that the maintenance dude showed up, found out we had a broken part, left, came back, fixed it & was finally finished around 10:45 pm. I swear I thought he would never get done. Tiger & I had to go back to our kennels while the guy was here. His dilly dallying totally messed up my night. Do you have any idea the amount of food I could have gotten out of my parents if I could have curled up with them & gave them the "oh woe is me" stare & sigh? Instead I got to stay up later than usual because everyone was wide awake including Bobby. This kid was still running around the house after 11 pm babbling about fire trucks. Alas the craziness totally threw off the mood in the house so my attempts at getting extra food were shot down. Have no doubt that I tried my best.

Well that pretty much sums up our Turkey day. Hope everyone out in bloggy land had plenty of loved ones around, awesome food to eat & your own stories to tell years from now :-)
