Sparky: For those of you that have not had the joy of enduring a toddler temper tantrum we are going to take you for a walk in our shoes. For you veteran parents out there just sit back & enjoy a trip down memory lane.
From what we have heard temper tantrums are a result of a child's desire for independence but an inability to properly express what they want... if they even know what it is they want. As we have mentioned in previous posts Robert is in the tantrum phase of toddler hood. Miraculously mommy managed to figure out her camera in time for this little experiment. Please keep in mind that this progression occurred in a 10 minute time frame.
One night when it was time for Robert to go from dinner in his highchair to bath time. He got very upset. He began by throwing his sippy cup, remaining food, & silverware across the room. This has become an undisputed sign that dinner for Bobby is over. Our smart little brother has figured out the progression of dinner to bath & gets even more agitated. My parents tend to work as a team getting Bobby out of his chair, stripping him of his clothes & putting him into the bathtub. While the new toys worked really well for a couple of days the effect has worn off. Fortunately they still help to calm him down rather quickly once he is in the tub. When Robert has calmed down & begins to play is when bath time can truly begin. As you can see a temper tantrum truly is a whirlwind of emotion
