The MS Update

Robert: As many of you know mommy has had lots of issues with her MS this year. I am happy to announce that this post is not about another episode. Mommy hasn't had an episode since early March. Dr. Hegde felt it was important for a few things to occur because of mommy's frequent & severe attacks: 1) Mommy needs a new MRI to see if there are any changes with the lesions 2) Mommy needs to be in a 1 level house for safety reasons.

Mommy had her MRI done 3/30 & 4/1. You may be wondering why 2 different dates. Well mommy is a little claustrophobic & the head MRI's are not fun. Anyone that has had an MRI knows you have to go into this little tube so the machine can take pictures. The difference with MRIs of the head & neck is you also have to wear some head gear. This thing looks like a combo of a knight's helmet & a cage. The thing that is mommy's undoing is that this helmet has a bar that goes across your shoulders & chest. Mommy says it feels like you are being held down. As you can imagine this greatly increases her anxiety. Anyhoo we got the test results this week. Unfortunately Dr. Hegde is out of town at the moment but another doctor called mommy with the results. Mommy has a new lesion on her brain. This does not surprise my parents since mommy has had some new symptoms with her attacks. The doctor told mommy it is a small lesion & it wasn't active when the MRI was taken. Mommy will follow u with Dr. Hegde in May.

During the middle of February my parents started the process to move into a 1 level house. They needed Dr. Hegde to write a letter saying mommy has a medical need for the housing change. Daddy also needed a letter from his commander. Once all of this was acquired daddy was off to the housing office. We were told the request would take 30 days. As the deadline approached mommy made several attempts to check on the status. The first time the lady that answered the phone told mommy that it was out for processing & only my daddy was able to check on it. This sounded odd to mommy so she called back a couple of days later to hear a different answer. After several days of getting the run around mommy convinced daddy to go talk to the people so we would get an answer. After a lot of craziness the answer is we are approved to move. A 1 level house will be available in mid May so it looks like we will be doing lots of packing over the next few weeks :-)
