Robert: Mommy came up with the brilliant idea that we would have breakfast for dinner last night. She has also been talking about these biscuits my Nana used to make when mommy was little. Mommy decided she would make them to go with our "dinner". In typical mommy style she decided to change the recipe to make it her own. As mommy was staring into the freezer looking for the blueberries daddy strolled into the kitchen. She figured it might be a good idea to get daddy's opinion on what she was planning to add to the biscuits.
Mommy "Would you like blueberries in the biscuits?"
Daddy "Ummm I don't really like blueberries."
Mommy "Fine. What about strawberries or raspberries?"
Daddy "The idea of fruit in a biscuit kinda freaks me out. Any other choices?"
Mommy *sigh* "I can put chocolate chips in."
Daddy "That would be awesome"
Mommy just shook her head & went about her business in the kitchen. Daddy triumphantly came into my room to play with me until dinner was ready. I am still not very good about listening to certain things like not touching the oven when it is on. This means my non cooking parent usually distracts me in my room so I don't even realize I am missing out on anything in the kitchen.
Since mommy was changing the basic recipe she only glanced at the original one before she started mixing the ingredients. Please keep in mind that mommy has never made biscuits from scratch before. This will help explain what happened next. Mommy mixed the ingredients then floured a cutting board. She poured the mix onto the cutting board to begin to attempt kneading the dough. Mommy did the 10 times the recipe called for but it was still a gooey mess. Mommy said screw it & got out a spoon. She proceeded to spoon the "dough" onto the cookie sheets & place them in the oven. When the timer went off mommy took the sheets out of the oven. What was on the sheets did not look like any biscuit I have seen.
Mommy brought 1 for daddy & I to sample. I was very leery at first to try it. Once I did take a bite I realized it wasn't a biscuit at all but a mini oven baked pancake. I was down with eating that so off to the high chair I went for more. Mommy put the tater tots in the oven & daddy came over to discuss what happened. Mommy realized she didn't put enough flour in the mix. Oh well it was still a yummy treat.
This did create a lot of teasing for the rest of the evening. Daddy even told mommy he would make the breakfast burritos just to make sure they turned out to be breakfast burritos. I am sure by now you can tell that mommy failed in channeling her inner Julia Child. At least we have a funny story & unique treats for breakfast today :-)
